Clinical Evaluation of Afopam

Abstract
Afopam is a number of a new class of analgesics with a unique heterocyclic structure. It is unrelated chemically to any other drug, therefore, is not similar to any other known analgesic.
It is advocated for the relief of pain in patient who required parenteral analgesic for moderate to severe postoperative and somatic pain, using a single administration. The effect of intramuscularly administered afopam 20mg upon low back pain, after operation and subsequent days of laminectomy or diskectomy, was studied.
Modification of pain intensity in response to treatment was measured by self-assessed at 1/2 hour, 1, 2, and 4hours. The results of this study indicate safety for afopam in prescribed dosages and no evidence of habituation or dependency as judged by the investigators. It is likely that Afopam will prove to be a significant advance in the management of pain.
